The BAKFlip HD (Heavy Duty) Tonneau Cover / Truck Bed Cover has all of the great good looks and functionality of the BAKFlip G2 (Generation 2) Model but in a Heavy Duty / OEM (Factory) Quality version as this cover's outer surfaces are ALL METAL like the BAKFlip G2! However, the core of the BAKFlip HD Tonneau Cover / Truck Bed Cover is 25% more dense, 1/8" thicker and is much more rigid then the G2. The BAKFlip HD opens, closes, and operates identically to the BAKFlip G2 Model, however the BAKFlip HD has the following refinements: Panels on HD are 5/8" thick vs 1/2" thick for the G2 .The BAKFlip HD's textured flat aluminum surfaces on all panels have two coats of epoxy primer that is baked on at 460 degrees. This entire expoxy primer coating process is completed twice (first coat applied, baked on and cooled, and then the process is repeated). Once the two coats of primer has set, an extraordinarily tough and scratch-resistant polyester based coating is used as the final finishing coat (which gives the look of a tough, baked on enamel, but is much higher quality). This coating process ensures that the covers is both scratch and UV resistant. The 2 stage enamel process makes for a final finishing coat that is more of a factory look. The BAKFlip HD handles approximately 25% more distributed weight when compared to the G2. The HD is much more rigid then the G2. Quality and Rigidity Standards Endorsed by OEM - The BAKFlip HD is an Original Equipment Part for one of the Big 3 Automakers 2 year warranty for the BAKFlip HD vs. 1 year warranty for the BAKFlip G2. Powder coated pivoting arms - (G2 has zinc plated) Integrated tie down points underneath and on top of the cover (“D” Rings placed at strategic points under the cover). Extra Set of Clamps (8 clamps) provided for added rigidity (4 on each side). The G2 uses a total of 6 clamps. The BAKFlip HD has a higher quality finished look when compared to the BAKFlip G2 because of the 2 stage epoxy primer on the HD.

Installation was quite easy and didn't have to adjust anything or use any sealant to achieve a leak free fit the first time. When I first installed the rubber seals were still not laying down from being folded for shipping; just warm them up in the sun or with blow dryer and they lay right down. It rained 2 inches the day after I installed and not a drop of water on my bed rug.My last truck had an undercover bed cover and I really liked it but this is even better because I can use full bed without removing. This HD cover is the exact same as the OEM Ford cover; compared it to a friend who paid 100s more from Ford. The videos on BakFlip's website were a great selling point for BakFlip and also provide easy to follow video instructions. The unit arrived in perfect condition as it was well packaged. The installation was as easy as the video suggested. It took about 15 minutes to do the installation of the rails and bed cover. The drain lines were a little more time consumming as I had to drill out openings in the truck drain plugs and fit elbow joints to get the proper slope from the rail drain fitting. The drain hoses included with the unit were ok, but I also purchased worm clamps to ensure the lines didn't leak at the rail fitting. I would say that the BakFlip unit works as described in the Amazon's information and the BakFlip web site (it's reasonably Weather tight but NOT water proof). Overall I'm very pleased with... The product is quite an improvement over everything else I've seen or tried and for the most part, installation was straightforward. Fit and finish was excellent and I even installed mine over an inside-the-rails bedliner, so my drains simply pass the water under the bedliner and out the back (assuming I'm not on a steep nose-down incline).My only issue with the product is what I found out shortly thereafter. Inside the box is a paper that instructs you to register your purchase within 2 weeks to establish your warranty coverage. Unfortunately, when I went to the manufacturer's website at [...], here's what I found: a message on their warranty registration page stating "Products purchased on auction sites such as Ebay, Amazon and Craigslist, to name a few, will not be covered under factory warranty under any circumstance.
